Russell's debut came in 1993, when he competed at Rockingham. Starting 38th in the field of forty-two, Russell fell ten laps off the pace but still drove to a respectable 25th place finish. 25th would also be the result when he raced later in the year at Darlington.
Russell had to wait until 1998 to make his final start, competing in the inaugural race at Pikes Peak. Starting 39th in the field of forty-three, Russell only completed fourteen laps before falling out to a 40th place finish.
