2009 Sprint Cup Season will be the sixtieth NASCAR Cup season will begin on February 15 with the Daytona 500 at Daytona and end on November 22 with the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami.

- Due to a poor economy 5 teams merged:
Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Chip Ganassi Racing merged to form Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing
Petty Enterprises and Gillett Evernham Motorsports to form Richard Petty Motorsports
Tony Stewart co-ownership with Haas CNC Racing to form Stewart Haas Racing.
- 5 teams will debut this season: Tommy Baldwin Racing,Prism Motorsports,#64 (owned by Larry Gunselman), #41 (owned by Jeremy Mayfield) and Nationwide Series team JTG Daugherty Racing will make its fulltime Cup debut.
- Nationwide Series driver Joey Logano will drive the #20 Toyota[1].
- The #66 & #70 will become the #14 (#70) and #39 (#66) Chevrolets [2] [3].
- Ryan Newman will drive the #39 U.S. Army Chevrolet.
- Ford will begin running its 2010 model Fusion.
- Richard Childress Racing will field a fourth car, the #33 Cheerios Chevrolet driven by Clint Bowyer.
- Casey Mears has joined RCR driving the #07 Jack Daniels Chevrolet.
- Caterpillar will sponsor the #31 Chevrolet.
- Paul Menard will drive the #98 Menards Ford for Yates Racing.
- Mark Martin will drve the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.
- UPS will sponsor the #6 Roush Racing Ford.
- David Stremme will drive the #12.
- Cheerios will sponsor the #43, it will be driven by Reed Sorenson.
- The #44 is now be owned by Richard Petty Motorsports, it will be driven by A.J. Allmendinger and sponsored by Valvoline.
- David Reutimann will drive the #00, with Aarons returning as sponsor.
