2008 Sprint Cup Season

2008 Sprint Cup Season is the-fifty nineth NASCAR Cup season began on February 17,2008 with the 2008 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway and ends on November 16,2008 with 2008 Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Jimmie Johnson won the championship becoming the first to threepete since Cale Yarborough in 1978[1]. This was the first year the Car of Tomorrow competed the full cup schedule. Due to Sprints merger with Nextel, the series will be named Sprint Cup

Instead of the Dodge Avenger, the Dodge Charger will stay and the Car of Tomorrow will run full time. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will leave DEI to drive the #88 AMP Energy Drink/U.S. National Guard Chevy Hendrick Motorsports, Kyle Busch left Hendrick to drive the #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Chevy replacing J.J. Yeley and sponosred by M&M's Yeley was let go due to poor performance, Gibbs will run Toyota's. Budweiser left DEI to sponsor the #9 Evernham Motorsports Dodge, and Best Buy will leave Haas CNC Racing to spnosor the #19 and Sam Hornish Jr. will drive the #77 Mobil 1 Dodge . DEI Merged with Ginn Racing to take co ownership of the #01 Chevy's. Sterling Marlin was let go, Mark Martin and newley signed Aric Almirola will drive the #8 which is still unsponsored and Regan Smith to take full time seat in the #01, and Joe Nemechek left to pursue other options is gonig to pilot the #78 Furniture Row Racing Chevy .Jeremy Mayfield after a bad season was releived of the #36 Bill Davis Racing Toyota and will be replaced by Johnny Benson and Mike Skinner. Johnny Sauter and Jeff Green are released, [[Jeremy Mayfield]] will drive #70 Atlas Copco Chevy and Scott Riggs will drive the #66 State Water Heaters. David Reutimann will drive 5 races in the #00 Aarons Toyota then take over in the #44 and be replaced by Michael McDowell, Dale Jarrett will run six races then retire. The #21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford wil return driven by multiple drivers. Robert Yates will retired at the end of 2007 giving the team over to his son Doug Yates , the team will be renamed Yates Racing fielding the #38 and #28 (used to be #88) TBA sponsored Fords driven by David Gilliland (#38) and Travis Kvapil will take the place off the retiring Ricky Rudd in what is now #28 . Morgan-McClure Motorsports who fields the #4 Chevy will not return, they will team will close their shop.
