| IMPORTANT DATES |
|---|
| April 20, 2008: The season finale sets the tone for the first half of the year. Peyton Sellers wins, but is disqualified, part of a tough luck season for that driver. Austin Dillon inherits the victory, and the championship lead for half of the year. Matt Kobyluck has his only finish out of the top-ten all year, forcing him to have to make his way slowly upwards.
July 12, 2008: The momentum swings towards Kobyluck and Trevor Bayne at Thompson. Austin Dillon is disqualified for illegal shocks and falls out of the championship battle. Kobyluck inherits the points lead and Bayne establishes himself as legitimate with a victory. August 16, 2008: Matt Kobyluck wins his third straight race with a triumph at Lime Rock, a run that leaves him more than 150 markers out in front in the championship and practically making the title his to lose. September 19, 2008: History is made, as Aric Almirola becomes the first driver of Cuban descent to win an East Series race. Matt Kobyluck, who is considered part of a Native American minority, becomes the first minority driver to win a Touring Championship.
