The 1988 October Classic 200 was a Southwest Tour event held at Mesa Marin Raceway on October 15, 1988. Gary Manlow captured his only career victory. Dan Press who finished second, was added to the field as a promoter's option and started the race in 31st (last.) Jim Thirkettle, Jerry Bowers, and Roman Calczynski rounded out the top five finishers. Ray Hooper, Jr. was the top finishing rookie with an eighth place performance. The race took one hour, 17 minutes, and 20 seconds to complete at an average speed of 77.586 mph. Calczynski set fast time with a quick lap of 18.630 seconds/96.618 mph. Following the race, Calczynski topped the point standings by 48 points over Troy Beebe. Ron Hornaday, Jr. topped the rookie standings.
