The 1986 Miller 100 was a Southwest Tour event held at Saugus Speedway on March 29, 1986. It was the first ever race for the series. Roger Avants took the honors of winning the premiere race after leaders Roman Calczynski and Ivan Baldwin tangled on the last lap. Baldwin would have actually won the race, but his rough driver was penalized. He was the runner-up.

Roger Avants of Littleton. Cok>.( won the opening race of the NASCAR Southwest Tour for Ail- American Challenge Series stock cars Saturday night, going ahead for good on the final lap at Saugus Speedway. • Avants, who drove a Chevrolet Camaro, averaged 54.21 mph in a race slowed five times by caution. He took the lead when leaders Roman Catesynski and Ivan Baldwin tangled in the second turn on the last lap. Baldwin, of Ceres, Calif!, actually finished ahead of Avants on the race track but was penalized a position for spinning out Calczynski. Baldwin placed second in a Pontiac Firebird. Calczynski, of Sepulveda, Calif., had held the lead from the 62nd lap of the 100- lap race. Calczynski went into first place when No. 1 starter Don Wilson of Arvada, Colo., blew the engine in bis Chevrolet Camaro- Calczynski finished fourth. Third place went to Ron Esau of Lakeside, Calif., in a Chevrolet Camaro. Troy Beebe of Modesto, Calif., finithaH fifth.
