The 1985 Winn-Dixie 500 was a Winston Modified Tour (now known as the Whelen Modified Tour) event held at Martinsville Speedway on October 27, 1985. It was a season finale bathed in tragedy. Richie Evans, who had already clinched the year long championship, died in a practice accident earlier in the activies. He had won nine straight championships, although officially the first champion of the redesigned and current Modified Tour. The winner of the sober race was John Bryant, holding off Bugs Stevens. It was Bryant's only career victory. Charlie Jarzombek won the pole but finished 24th after a blown engine. There were ten cautions for fifty-one laps.
